Earlier today, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced it received 172,500 cap-subject H-1B petitions during the filing period which began April 1st. This represents a 39% increase from last year.
USCIS also announced that today, 04/10/2014, it completed the computer-generated random selection process, or lottery, to determine which petitions will be processed under the 65,000 general-category cap and 20,000 advanced degree cap. Slightly more than half of cap-subject petitions will not be selected for processing and those cases will be returned by USCIS with government filing fees.
No information was given with regards to when USCIS expects to complete data entry and send receipt notices for the accepted cases. As previously announced, USCIS will begin premium processing for H-1B cap cases no later than April 28. Receipts for Premium Processing cases will likely be received first.
