Trump Backs Points-Based Immigration System
President Trump on Wednesday announced his support for a flawed bill that aims to replace the current employment-based immigration system with a point-based system.
The plan calls for points to be doled out based on age, education, English ability and salary. Under the plan, the highest scoring candidate would be 26 to 31 years old with a US advanced degree, who speaks nearly perfect English and who has a salary offer that's three times as high as the median income for the state.
Because this bill is largely unsupported by Congress, it is very unlikely to become law and a detailed analysis of the bill is unwarranted at this time.
