U.S. Department of State Technical Difficulties Affecting Visa Applicants
The Department of State’s Bureau of Consular Affairs is currently experiencing technical problems with its visa processing systems. Specifically, a hardware failure on June 9th halted the flow of biometric clearance requests. Individuals who submitted online applications or were interviewed for visas on or after June 9th may experience a delay.
The DOS cannot bypass the legal requirements necessary to screen visa applicants before it issues visas. As a result, there is a backlog of visas waiting to be processed. It is not yet clear when the technical issues will be resolved.
