JUNIPER NETWORKS, INC. PRAISES ILG'S SERVICE

Juniper Networks, Inc. came to ILG a few years ago and asked for help with a dilemma it was facing with its
immigration program. The company’s Immigration Specialist was being promoted to another department within
the company and her manager, the head of its immigration program was moving out of state and he would only be
available to answer immigration questions via telephone or email; not in person. Juniper did not want to increase
its headcount by hiring a replacement so they turned to ILG...

FBI NAME CHECK UPDATE

On February 4, 2008, USCIS issued a
memorandum modifying existing guidance regarding background and security checks on certain applicants, petitioners, and
beneficiaries seeking certain immigration

H1-B WRAP UP FOR FISCAL YEAR 2009
|
|
In the past several years, the H-1B cap has been reached before the start of the fiscal year. Last year,
over 119,000 petitions were filed on April 2 and April 3, forcing USCIS to conduct a computer generated
random lottery to select the cap-subject petitions. The advanced degree cap was reached on April 30, 2007.
This year, USCIS issued an interim final rule on March 19, 2008, with changes to the H-1B Program to make the
lottery process more equitable. (more)

F-1 OPT EXTENSION
|
|
Currently, foreign students in F-1 nonimmigrant status who have been enrolled on a full-time basis for at
least one full academic year in a college, university, conservatory, or seminary are eligible for 12 months
of post-completion optional practical training (OPT) to work for a U.S. employer in a job directly related to
the student's major area of study. (more)

WHAT IS IT?
E-Verify is an internet-based system operated by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in partnership
with the Social Security Administration (SSA) that allows participating employers to electronically verify
the employment eligibility (I-9) of their newly employees. Currently, E-Verify is voluntary and free.
