Immigrant Visa Availability for August 2006
July 17, 2006
For August, the Department of State found it necessary to retrogress
the cut-off date in two employment-based visa categories and did
not advance the cut-off date in any visa categories. This is being
done in an effort to hold the green-card issuance levels within
the annual numerical limits for the affected categories.
Specifically, for EB-2 applicants born in India, immigrant visa
will become unavailable in August. For EB-3 applicants born in India,
the date retrogressed from April 15, 2001 to April 1, 2001. The
dates of all other categories and countries remain unchanged from
July.
Immigrant visa number use is approaching the annual limits for
the year in many categories, and the supply of numbers remaining
for allocation is limited. Therefore, for September there is increased
possibility of additional retrogressions of cut-off dates such as
those experienced in August. Categories which could experience retrogressions
are:
Worldwide: Employment 4th
China: Employment 2nd and 3rd
India: Employment 1st
Mexico: Employment 3rd
