President Obama signed a bill directing $600 million more to securing the U.S.-Mexico border. Funding will come from raising fees on H-1B and L-1 petitioners with 50 or more employees and more than 50% of their workforce in H-1B, L-1 or L-2 (using EAD) status. The fee will increase by $2,250 for each L-1 petition and by $2,000 for each H-1B petition.

The new fee is required only on the company's initial petition for the beneficiary/employee.

The new fee is effective immediately.
