FY 2013 H-1B Cap Update #2

FY 2013 H-1B Cap Update #2
April 24, 2012

As of April 20, 2012, USCIS received the following number of H-1Bs that count against the annual H-1B cap:

Regular:

25,000

Advanced US degree:

10,900

The "regular" H-1B cap is 65,000 per year and the advanced US degree cap is 20,000 per year.

The breakdown on the number of H-1B cap cases filed so far this season:

First 6 business days (through 4/09/12): 17,400 & 8,200

Next 4 business days (through 4/13/12): 3,200 & 1,500

Last 5 business days (through 4/20/12): 4,400 & 1,200

This year’s rate of filing continues to be faster than last year’s.  While still early, it is believed this year’s cap may be reached as early as June.

Last year, the H-1B cap was reached after more than 7 months, on 11/22/11. In the year before that, the cap was reached after more than 9 months, on 1/26/11.

ILG will continue to provide updates as they become available.
